HSP stands for a highly sensitive person.

It is important to understand accept the fact that the trait is absolutely normal. There is nothing wrong with being a highly sensitive person. In fact, it is found in nearly 15 to 20% of our population.

Being a highly sensitive person is an innate trait that reflects a certain type of survival strategy. The roots of the personality comes from being observant before acting. The most important factor to consider is that you are not the only one with this character trait. There are many gifts and benefits that come with being a highly sensitive person.

Being highly sensitive means that you are more aware of other subtleties. This means that you are more detail oriented than others. You tend to notice more and see the little things that others usually would not see. This is mainly due to your brain processing information at a quicker pace, causing you to reflect more deeply on what you see and hear. This is most certainly not a bad thing. In fact, this trait is often great in the workforce. There will always be a need for people who notice the little details and pay attention to smaller specs.

Being a highly sensitive person means that you are more likely to be cautious about or before taking action. You are more careful when considering all the possible options and outcomes. Just like being more detailed, this is not exactly a bad thing! With all the bad going on in the world, being a little more cautious is certainly viewed as a pro rather than a con. We all know people who are spontaneous and radical in their decision making. Having the ability to process all the possibilities and moving when the time is right is a trait that many others would love to have.

The trait of high sensitivity also usually includes a strong awareness of their inner emotional states. This usually translates over for more rich and profound works as a creative. When you are more in synch with your mental health and abilities, you are able to produce more work as a person. You see more than the average person would. You see different variables and options in everything that is placed against you. Having a strong awareness of your inner being is a great way to finding inner peace. Highly sensitive people tend to elicit greater responses to pain and discomfort. This is why they generally tend to take better care of their health. When they understand the inner mechanisms of their body, these people tend to work to counteract any sense of discomfort or pain.

Processing so much information from the inner and outer world can be too much at times, even for a highly sensitive person. This is why it is important to set aside time and space for your leisure and hobbies. Not everything has to be an uphill battle. Remember that even the greatest people take make time for themselves. Being a highly sensitive person has great potential. Half the battle is understanding that you are not alone. Utilizing it to your full potential is the other!
